Feel the need for speed? We’ve got you covered.
A fast loading website is a great thing to behold. There’s a lot of reasons for that, but the biggest reason? It helps your rankings.
google has decided that a fast loading theme should actually be a ranking factor. In fact, I’ve found out the hard way that this is absolutely true. I was using a bloated theme that I won’t name, found that my traffic had slipped a little bit. Poking around and talking to some SEO friends, I foud out that my site’s load speed may have been a factor.
So, I installed a fast loading theme (I personally use Blue Jay now, one of our free themes that you can demo here and download here,) and the difference has been incredible. Without doing anything else, I saw a big bounce in traffic and there’s really nothing else I can attribute it to. Now, you may not have been using a slow, bloated ‘premium’ theme like the one I was using, so your results may vary. But the one thing I guarantee is this, these are some of the fastest themes available as rated by GTMetrix.
Here they are, the best fast loading WordPress themes around.
With a nearly perfect ySlow score, Silverbow is a really fast loading free theme that is sleek, accommodating, magnificent, simple and easy to use, elegant, equally perfect for discussing articles, displaying your portfolio, marketing products and writing and we couldn’t be happier to offer it to you for free. You’ll find that this theme uses so few calls and the code is so lightweight, it will really improve your site load speeds, which can certainly help in terms of SEO. Check out the demo or just go ahead and download it now.
Montana scored really, really well, which kind of surprised me, since the front image in the demo is massive. (That can be changed, but I liked the design of it this way.)
Empire is like a freakin’ rocket ship, it loaded right around 5 seconds with just 34 requests and a bunch of big images. Pretty nice.
Quartz locked down another perfect 100% page speed score and notched an A on YSlow too.
Not gonna lie, this one needs some work. I’m planning to adjust a few things, tweak some code and try to get this into the solid ‘A’ range, but for now, I’m keeping it right here since it loads up faster than the vast majority of WooCommerce themes out there. (In fact, that’s the reason it didn’t score better, the WooCommerce demo images don’t scale properly. So, a real website with real images would likely already be in the A range.)
And then there’s Mercury, loading up in just over 2 seconds, not many requests and fantastic scores on both Page Speed and YSlow.
This is the motor under the hood of ThemeIt. A really solid PageSpeed score, YSlow score as good as anybody, a miniscule page size and just 30 requests, WooCommerce capability and more, that’s why we’ve chosen this theme for our site.
Crate is a simple, modern and minimalist WordPress theme with a fun and user-friendly responsive layout and let me tell you, this theme has a very, very impressive load time. All that makes Crate an SEO dream, since both load speeds and responsive layouts are a part of the current iteration of Google’s ranking criteria. Crate looks great too, it’ snot just about those fast load times.
Because honestly, it’s your content that’s what really matters when it comes to ranking and with Crate, your content will be perfectly framed and look wonderful on each and every size or type of screen. Crate is simple to customize too. With the Live Customizer feature, you’ll be able to quickly and easily adjust a almost any kind of setting. This theme is translation ready too, is packaged with demo data that you can import with just one click, helping you get your site set up quickly. It’s also very well coded, which is probably why it loads so fast! Okay, here’s the GTMetrix scorecard:
Now, the page speed score may seem a bit low and it is, but that’s because the demo doesn’t have optimized images, which would greatly improve that score.
